The night before Alicia and Matt were to be married at their home, they held a welcome dinner for all their guests, including children, at Cherry Basket Farm about 30 minutes north of Traverse City. It was a perfectly planned, summer solstice event with quintessential northern Michigan weather. The rustic location allowed everyone to let their hair down and get to know each other. They hired a live duo, True Mutt, to play acoustic favorites while their guests played lawn games and sampled treats that would please any foodie — including three types of freshly shucked oysters. The bride’s event planning company, A Day In May, worked with Bloom Design to add informal floral touches throughout the party. The bride also tapped the talents of her friend Anna Lucia Richardson, who designed the linens in collaboration with BBJ Linen.
Midway through the evening I stole away with Alicia, Matt for a few moments to capture some portraits of the two of them together around the grounds of this historic 120-year old property. It gave them a moment to take in the surroundings as well as the spectacular sunset light. on the longest day of the year Afterward, twilight fell, out came the s’mores, a sweet ending to a wonderful night.
