Basilica of St. Mary Wedding | The Machine Shop Minneapolis

Robby and Kallie decided to be married at the iconic Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, distinguished as the nation’s “first” Basilica built during the early 20th century, 1907-1915. A June date felt right to the couple, as something to look forward to after a long, cold Minnesota winter. The reception was held at another historic building built around the same time but with a more industrial vibe — the Machine Shop, a former building and repair facility for the Pillsbury Flour company. This 1916 era facility had fallen into disrepair but had recently been restored for social occasions and embraced by couples looking for a loft-like reception space featuring exposed beams and brick.

Kallie was not attached to a tight color scheme and had a collaborative process for helping her bridesmaids pick individual, rather than matching, gowns. She wanted her bridal party to feel “confident and beautiful” in a dress that worked best for them while still coordinating as a group. Kallie remembered, “I decided it would be easiest to pick bold but different colors so we weren’t too restrained while looking for options. I would find dresses I liked for each person in a variety of colors then send their way. One by one, we found the dresses.” Kallie envisioned a day that felt effortless with delicate details, such as the bouquet of Lily of the Valley and Baby’s Breath that she carried in her bouquet.

Looking back on the day Robby fondly remembered having breakfast with his groomsmen and later a first look with Kallie at the Hewing Hotel. Kallie especially enjoyed getting ready with her closest friends, sisters and mom. She also recalls reading a letter penned by Robby and “holding his hand throughout the day.”

With a significant lag between the Catholic ceremony and evening reception, the couple decided to swing by their wedding hotel for some time alone. Even so, they were among the first to arrive at the reception and stood near the doorway to greet every guest. Robby remembers that moment as feeling “so thankful for each and every person in our lives.”

The reception was punctuated by some touching (and hilarious!) toasts. They shared their first dance to “Electric” by Alina Baraz ft. Khalid. And danced the night away to Sabby White, front-lined by her cousin.

After the wedding Kallie and Robby took a two week honeymoon to Italy, including Tuscany and the Amalfi coastline.
